A BRIEF BRIEFING

Put history in its place.

  1. 01
    Read the order.

You get a title and one factual clue. The president, date, and order number stay sealed.

  2. 02
    Find its year.

Drag the timeline marker, tap the timeline, or enter a year. Zoom in to place it precisely. Arrow keys work too.

  3. 03
    Open the record.

Lock your guess to reveal the signing year and its history. Each round starts at 1,000 points. Subtract the square of the number of years you missed by, with a minimum score of zero. A 10-year miss earns 900 points. Five rounds add up to a score out of 5,000.

Everyone gets the same five daily orders, with a new file at midnight UTC. There are also 3 practice files of five orders each. There is no timer. Titles are shortened where needed; the original title and source appear after your guess.

THE PAPER TRAIL

Real orders.
Real history.

Every answer uses the year the order was signed, rather than its publication date. The archive contains 15 curated orders from primary historical sources.

Some titles are shortened for the game. The full title, signing date, president, and source are revealed after each guess. Historical orders may have been amended or revoked.
